What Kansas City Pet Owners Actually Pay

One ESA Letter Missouri eliminates all of it.

Renting in Kansas City with a pet

$700+per year

  • Pet deposit: $200–400 upfront
  • Pet rent: $20–40/month
  • Breed restrictions: Kansas City has no breed ban, but city code Sec. 14-60 requires pit bull type dogs to be spayed or neutered, and an ESA letter does not change that.

RealESALetter.com letters comply with Missouri ESA laws, the Missouri Human Rights Act, and the federal Fair Housing Act. Every RealESALetter.com letter includes the clinician's state license number, issue date, and direct contact information, as required under the Fair Housing Act

The Law Behind Your Protection

In Missouri, your ESA housing rights rest first on state law. The Missouri Human Rights Act, RSMo § 213.040, makes it an unlawful housing practice to refuse reasonable accommodations in rules, policies, practices, or services when the accommodation may be necessary to give a person with a disability equal opportunity to use and enjoy a dwelling. This state protection is enforced by the Missouri Commission on Human Rights and remains fully active. The federal Fair Housing Act (42 U.S.C. § 3604) provides the same obligation, and that statute has not changed.

Landlords in Kansas City who refuse a valid ESA letter or continue charging pet fees may be in violation of the Missouri Human Rights Act and federal law. Complaints can be filed with the Missouri Commission on Human Rights.
