History of the Toyger Cat and Physical Appearance

The Toyger began development in the 1980s in the US, when breeder Judy Sugden tried to develop a true replica of majestic jungle cats. Judy Sugden is the daughter of Jean Mill, who is responsible for breeding Bombay cats. So, Sugden started a breeding program with a big-boned Bengal named “Millwood Rumpled Spotskin” and a striped domestic shorthair named “Scrapmetal”. Later in 1993, she imported a street cat from Kashmir, India, named “Jammu Blu” to add to the development. Jammu Blu had spotted markings instead of tabby lines between the ears.
