Clinical Background
Christopher Armbruster has more than two decades of clinical experience across private practice, community mental health, inpatient psychiatric, and crisis settings. He spent eleven years in independent private practice in Missouri providing individual, family, and group counseling alongside comprehensive intake assessment, DSM diagnosis, treatment planning, and discharge coordination, working in both school-based and community settings. His earlier work includes group counseling on an adult psychiatric and dual-diagnosis inpatient unit, outpatient therapy for co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders with 24-hour crisis coverage, clinical supervision and program coordination for chronically mentally ill populations, and text-based crisis counseling for students. He has administered GAD-7 and PHQ-9 severity measures and collaborated with psychiatrists and treatment teams on level-of-care decisions. Since 2021 his practice has focused on emotional support and psychiatric service animal assessment.
How Christopher Approaches Every Evaluation
An ESA evaluation is a clinical assessment, and I treat it as one. I complete a full mental health assessment to determine whether there is a genuine therapeutic need for an emotional support or psychiatric service animal, both in the home and, where it applies, during air or ground travel. I review the patient's history, current symptoms, and treatment goals before I reach any conclusion, and I write a letter only when the therapeutic benefit is clinically supported. Having supervised other clinicians for two decades, I hold my own documentation to the standard I would expect from anyone I supervise.
